Book Review: The Red Book

Disclosure: I received a free copy of Mark Harper’s “The Red Book” in exchange for writing a review on the blog and Amazon. All opinions are my own and truthfully, I’m excited to share those opinions with you! There are also Amazon affiliate links below that sends me chump change without further to cost to you. Read on, friends! There are free bonuses you wouldn’t want to miss out on.

I was blessed to read The Red Book by Mark Harper before it was released and I highly recommend it. In short, this book belongs on every shelf of every children’s pastor, leader, and volunteer, as well as other pastors and church leaders because it covers the essential parts of Children’s Ministry in succinct, inspirational, and practical ways.

It’s an easy read.
Mark Harper introduced this book as “The Life Blood of Children’s Ministry.” He dwindled down Children’s Ministry to only the essential parts (the life blood parts) and came up with…45 chapters! At first I was blown away, but then I was curious because the book isn’t thick at all. Each chapter is about 3-6 pages short and reads like a blog post. That means it’s easy to understand. It’s also hard to put down. I finished it in a couple of days.

The right balance of inspiration and practicality.
There is a lot to unpack in Children’s Ministry, and Mark got them down. He wrote about each of them in a way that is both inspirational and practical. He wrote from the heart and shared the insights he received from God and from experience. Then he offered practical tips on how we can implement what he had learned into our own ministries.

It’s a must-have resource.
I have been in Children’s Ministry since 1999, and if you asked me to tell you what you need to know about it, we’d be talking for days. I wish I had this book when I first started. I agree with the topics Mark chose as the life blood of Children’s Ministry. He covered topics about Children’s Ministry I’ve succeeded in, failed at, and working on. He also covered topics and brought up ideas I’ve never thought of.

This book needs to be on the shelf of anyone working even remotely close to Children’s Ministry. Give it to your volunteers. Give it to your senior pastor. It will help them understand the work that goes in Children’s Ministry: from prayer to programs to relationships with children and families.

This is the book you would want to keep close because you can easily flip to the topic of your choice to find encouragement and advice. This is the book you would want to read with your ministry team. It doesn’t take long to read a chapter, but each chapter can spark a healthy discussion and a brainstorm of ideas.

The Red Book is also the book you would want to buy this month (February 2017) because if you do, you can get 5 bonuses worth $398 for FREE. You can get the details here, but the gist of it is you’ll get three 4-week curriculum, one 12-week curriculum, and one 5-day VBS curriculum. I thought Mark and his team lost their minds with this offer, but it just goes to show how much they believe this book would be a big help to a lot of ministries. And I believe right alongside them!

Head over to The Red Book Can’t Say No Offer page to find out how you can get 5 free bonuses if you buy The Red Book this month.
