A Good Kind of Tired

I’m tired. Bone deep, feet aching tired. And it’s GOOD.

It’s VBS week over at our church. That’s Vacation Bible School for the kiddos. It’s been crazy decorating and getting last minute things ready. This past Sunday, we had 8 kids registered. Yesterday, 19 kids showed up (and as I update this post, 25 on Tuesday night). That number doesn’t even compare to how many kids other churches have for VBS. It’s not even the most kids we’ve had. But my team and I were still wiped out from these past few days, and the week’s not over yet.

But it’s GOOD.

It’s the good kind of tired. The kind of tired that feeds your soul. Your feet aches for days, you feel older than you are, and you might find a gray hair or two. But your spirit is alive. You’re living out your purpose. You’re doing God’s work.

And it doesn’t matter if you serve 19 kids, 100 people, 1000+, or just one. When you are God’s hands and feet, you will get tired but it will be GOOD.

If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Isaiah 58:10-11 (ESV)

God sustains His people as they express their love for Him by being His hands and feet to the world. (Click to Tweet)

Whatever that world looks like. A mom at home raising children in the fear of the Lord. Moving to a new city to help a fledgling ministry. Going overseas, in the dangerous places, to tell unreached people about Jesus. Getting groceries for your neighbor. Befriending the new kid at school. Alone with your computer, writing words in your blog to encourage people you have never and will never meet in person. Helping out in VBS even if children intimidate you.

Don’t give up. Pour yourself out. Spend yourself. Give yourself over to the work of the Lord. He will sustain you, guide you, satisfy you, and give you strength.

  1. Oh Angela, I remember those VBS days!! They do make you tired! So glad you shared this message of refilling through God with us at Testimony Tuesday. Appreciate you, friend!

  2. Hi Angela,
You’re so right…it doesn’t matter the number of kids….what matters is you are loving them as God loves through you 🙂 Praying God gives you and your team strength for the rest of the week 🙂

I'd love to hear from you!
