Picture this, you’ve been stopped on the street by the photographer of Humans of New York, and he asks, “What advice would you give to a large group of people?” Share a picture of yourself along with the advice.

Dream BIG, use your imagination, and give back.

I’ve been stabbed in the back by people I trusted, and that propelled me into a phase of selfishness. I am an INFP and can’t help but look for the good and embark on a quest for good. My selfish phase probably looked normal to everybody else: focusing on myself, on my work or building a career, and on pursuing things that brought me happiness.

But I stopped dreaming bigger than myself. I stopped using my imagination to better the world around me. I really stopped giving myself to the world I thought hurt me. Why should I sacrifice when they didn’t? Why should I be the bigger person when nobody cared?

The person I ended up hurting the most was me, and in the process, I hurt and let down a lot of people, whether they knew it or not.

We spend a lot of time figuring out our purpose, when it’s really simple. It’s to give back to the world the best versions of ourselves. It’s how we keep our humanity. It’s how we love. It’s how we heal. It’s how we inspire.

Dream BIG. Bigger than yourself. Outside of yourself. Dream for those who are hurting. Dream for the oppressed.  For the needy. The brokenhearted. The lonely. The person right next to you as well as the person on the other side of the world.

Use your imagination to find solutions to the problems in your backyard, your neighbor’s backyard, and even your enemy’s backyard. Don’t resign to what is. Imagine the possibilities and make them come true.

And give back. Whether or not you get credit for it. Whether or not you get fame. Even if you lose energy, time, or money. Give back for the benefit of your fellow humans, not yourself. Give back for the betterment of our one world. Give back without expectation, without reward. It’s good for the soul.

Dream BIG, use your imagination, and give back.
