Time Capsule

Question 16:
If you planted a time capsule right now of your life to be opened in 20 years, what would be in it?

I’ve always been fascinated with time capsules or letters from the past. From time to time, I would write an email to my future self using FutureMe.org. Basically, go to their website and you can write an email to yourself (or to anyone) and send it at least 1 year into the future. You can make that email public (but anonymous), and other FutureMe users can read it, or make it private. I would do this every new year and every birthday. I’ll just write about my life so far, any updates or changes, and I get to read it when I’m a year older. I would write rants, hopes, and anything. A year later, I always send it a year later, I’d get emails from myself, see how I’ve grown, see how I’ve changed, and be reminded of things I’ve forgotten.

So I suppose, I’ll print out the emails I’ve already received (they’re in a special inbox folder!) and along with my journals and prayer journals, stick ’em all in a time capsule.

I’ll also add photographs of people important to me.

Some sort of makeup, maybe a lipstick, in a fun and funky color, along with a note that says, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Have fun! But don’t use this makeup because it’s 20 years old.”

The first drafts of stories I’ve written.

A skein of yarn and knitting needles.

My NLT Bible because it’s the one with a lot of colored underlines of God’s promises, blessings, and verses that spoke directly into my heart. And of course, I’m going to have to re-underline those verses in a different Bible! But I would include that Bible in a time capsule so when I open it, I would see which verses God spoke to me, how they might be speaking to me 20 years later, and see how God’s faithfulness have woven throughout my life. Because I know it would.

And some real gold jewelry to be traded in for emergency cash, just in case. 😀
