Writing and Maria

Question 12:
Your proudest accomplishment

I was just dabbling with freelance writing when I sold a non-fiction article. I was deliriously happy. That’s my proudest accomplishment because it gave me a glimpse into what writing can be. I wrote an article about friendship and how I came to realize that Jesus is my friend, a friend that would never leave me. A weekly magazine for children bought it. And that’s what writing can be.

Writing can be a very positive influence in the lives of others.

Hindsight is 20/20. At the time, I was stoked because I saw my words printed on an actual magazine. The payment was like a validation that my story was worth sharing. When I look back now, I can see God’s hand in my life. He stirred something in me, and when that story sold, He showed me how I can use this gift He gave for His glory.

Fast forward many years later…years of not touching the writing market, years of finishing college, years of being lost, years of figuring things out, years of ups and downs, and I’m grateful God is still guiding my way. God continues to stir my spirit, continues to show me His hand in my life.

Question 13:
Describe how you met the last person you texted and talk about your friendship/relationship

I met her when I was 3 years old and she was a baby. She’s my youngest sister. And instead of talking (much) about her, I’m going to show you.

Meet Clarissa

She’s got a B.S. in Advertising and when I’ve got questions about photo editing, I ask her.
She did the graphics that won 1st place in the Pashma Cashmere design competition in SF.

1st place winners

She introduced me to Philz Coffee and got me on board TWIFF.

She’s also one of my Kingdom Kids leaders.

Helping build the church

I think I frustrate her when I cook without measuring and she has to be precise. And when I travel without sense and she needs a step-by-step itinerary. She and my other sister, Catherine, know how to speak car and recognize make and model with a glance. I, on the other hand, can tell you the color and maybe not even that. Sometimes people call us the 3 Marias, especially when we’re sitting side by side, like this…

because it’s fun. try it.

The “3 Marias” is a phrase I’ve heard most from Filipino grandmas to describe 3 sisters. FYI, only Clarissa has a “Maria” in her name.
