Every month, I’m taking a look back at the things I learned, loved, and lived through. I’m also looking forward to the next month. This is my look back at February 2018, the love month.

LEARNED
A lot about Abraham Lincoln‘s life and faith journey. It’s fascinating!
I was not into the Olympics. I watched and cheered at clips of Shaun White’s gold-medal run and Mirai Nagasu’s triple axel Olympic history, but that was about it. I remember watching Shaun White at the Olympics many years ago and seeing talent even when I knew nothing about snowboarding. It was the same when I watched Michael Phelps rack gold medals. But this Olympics didn’t pull me to tune in.

LIVED THROUGH
Another single Valentine’s Day. Babysitting for our church’s couples dinner went alright. There weren’t a lot of people in attendance, so we had four children to look after. It was a long weekend, which might explain the low attendance, but it also gave me pause to really re-think of the events we hold as a church. Tying these thoughts to children’s ministry, of course.
Finished reading these books:
- When God Made Light by Matthew Paul Turner, a wonderful book for your family or ministry library and a great gift book for kids. Seriously. Awesome message and beautiful illustrations
- Uniquely You by Michelle S. Lazurek, another great book to gift someone, especially a young girl in your life. I received a copy to review, and what I loved most about it was it introduced spiritual gifts from God.
- Unboxed by Martijn Van Tilborgh, a course book that challenged me to think differently and to act according to who Christ said I was.
- Lincoln’s Battle With God by Stephen Mansfield. I had forgotten how I received this book, but I was so glad to have picked it up when I was uninspired to read other books. It was a fascinating look into Lincoln’s life and spiritual journey.
- A Whole New World by Liz Braswell, a twisted tale on Aladdin. What if Jafar ended up with the lamp? It was more twisted that I anticipated. More for YA and older readers.
- A Very Special Delivery by Linda Goodnight, a sweet Christian romance. I just needed a short, easy read.
- Don’t Forget Dexter! by Lindsay Ward was another Amazon Kindle First pick. It was cute but the dino was neurotic.
- Go by Kazuki Kaneshiro, a book in translation, which ticked off a box on Modern Mrs. Darcy’s 2018 Reading Challenge. It was from an Amazon Kindle First, and it was okay.
One of my goals this year is to keep my GoodReads updated so you can read my reviews of these books on there.
Stopped reading this book: A Beautiful Work In Progress by Mirna Valerio because there were a lot of running terms introduced right away that just blew past my head. I chose this book for the Amazon Kindle First because I didn’t like the other selections. This one didn’t hook me in, but I think it would be a good read for someone into running and marathons.
LOOKING FORWARD
Earth thawing. Really, it’s been so cold. I know, I know. California’s not as cold as the rest of the country, but we’re also not used to the cold we have!
I’m looking forward to these movies: A Wrinkle In Time (March 9), Tomb Raider (March 16), I Can Only Imagine (March 16), and Paul, Apostle of Christ (March 28). I’ve already seen I Can Only Imagine and highly recommend it. Bring everyone. Bring tissues.
March will also be filled with doing assignments and Easter preparations. I’m not sure, yet, what our kidmin will do or if we have time to do anything. I am considering giving out goody bags (might call them blessing bags) or Easter in a box (one per family). We will see!
Here’s a finished picture of my first Color Me Mine project!
