New Additions To My Report
- They added Filipino & Austronesian. Austronesian is a genetic signature found from Hawaii to Madagascar. I’m happy they added Filipino!
- Broadly Chinese was added to Southeast Asian (6.3%)
- Native American was added to Broadly East Asian (0.6%)
- Broadly Northern Asian & Native American (0.1%) added. Here’s their description of this population:
-
Dispersed across three continents, the peoples of Northern Asia and the Americas have deeply-rooted genetic similarities, reflecting a history of widespread and rapid migrations across the vast central Asian plains, Siberia, and eventually into the Americas across the Bering land bridge. Subtle linguistic affinities reveal ancient links between some Native American languages and languages still spoken in Siberia. Broadly Northern Asian & Native American DNA is a relic of this ancient population split, and and is difficult to assign to a specific region.
- This gives me hope that I have some DNA from a Native American ancestor, which family lore says we have but I honestly haven’t been able to find this ancestor
-
- French & German (0.5%) was added, which supports family lore that we have German ancestors
- Sub-Saharan African (0.3%) had added two details! I am 0.2% Southern East African (“Bantu-speaking peoples from Nigeria and Cameroon”) and 0.1% Broadly Congolese & Southern East African.
Gone From My Report
- <0.1% Japanese is gone
- 0.3% South Asian is gone
- 0.6% Iberian is gone, but Iberian is classified under the 0.9% Broadly Southern European
What I love about this new and updated report is the addition of the Filipino population and the more detailed populations for Sub-Saharan African. I believe it’s because the more people who do these Ancestry DNA kits, the more information 23andMe gets to add to their database. This, in turn, gives us more information about ourselves!
That said, I’m sharing my referral link again. Join the fun and add to the knowledge!
