To me, November through January feels like a pilgrimage back to basic goodness: love, family, simple pleasures, hope, and renewal. I love being warmed up with a cup of hot cocoa with cinnamon, or dusting off that plush throw so I can curl up under it with a good book. Families and friends gather together to remember yesterday, celebrate today, and look forward to tomorrow.
I think it’s the perfect time for a book club.
Oh I know people are busy. We are all busy all the time, especially in the holidays. But if something matters enough, we’ll make time for it.
Why a book club?
Because it can be as small or as big as you want it to be.
Because it can be as simple as meeting at a coffee house for 1 hour, or taken a step further with a potluck at your home.
Because it forces people to pause from daily responsibilities and expand their worldview in a fun way.
Because it brings people together and allows them to breathe away from the daily grind.
Because it can be a pilgrimage.
Back to community. Back to simple pleasures. Even back to the Word, if you turn that book club into a Bible study.
Go ahead. Grab a book. Grab a friend. Get together.
