What else should you be doing this weekend but watch the Olympics? Okay, okay. I know, life is still going on during the Olympics. I’ve actually only watched the Olympics via TVs in restaurants and YouTube clips. I wanted to see how Michael Phelps did (and he’s doing great) because years ago, I watched him become the most decorated Olympian in the world. It was a rare moment that I turned on the TV to watch the Men’s Swimming competitions. I only ever watched the Women’s Gymnastics. But the world was buzzing…screaming…about Phelps and watching him swim was not a disappointment. It was amazing to see him pull farther and farther in front of the competition to win medal after medal. And the world saw his life take a turn for the worse, but then we saw him turn it around. I love a good redemption story, don’t you?
If you don’t want to sit around the TV all day for the Olympics, here are some highlights that I enjoyed. Hope you do, too!
Phelps as the anchor for the 4x200m Freestyle Relay reminded me of when he swam years ago, pulling in front of the competition. And Phelps swag when he won his 20th gold.
Simone Manuel breaking an Olympic record and making history as the first African American woman to medal in an individual event in swimming. You go, girl! And this is what she has to say right after.
And Katie Ledecky? Just. Wow.
Another Simone, Simone Biles, wins gold for gymnastics. How gymnasts can twist and turn in the air multiple times will always astound me.
Best Olympic meme ever:
And back to the US Olympic Swim Team because they’re pretty funny. Watch the 2016 team’s Carpool Karaoke. Remember the 2012 team’s Call Me Maybe?
