Weekend Fun Singles Edition Part 2

Weekend Fun

For Part 2 of the Weekend Fun Singles Edition, I thought I’d suggest some singles solutions to couple-y things. It’s all in fun so enjoy!

Affiliate links are included below. Purchasing through these links adds no further cost to you but may give me some monetary change. So I thank you for the support.

Isolation booths for solo dining is what Ichiran has become known for. It is a tonkotsu ramen shop that opened its first US location in Brooklyn. Their isolation booth is meant to help the diner dive deep into the ramen experience, but it’s perfect for singles, introverts (like me), or anyone who doesn’t want to or have time to chit-chat during the meal. I hope they will open even more locations across the US.

Selfie stick alternatives like wide angle camera lens, the CamMe Selfie app or Whistle Camera app, anti-gravity phone cases, or the smartphone-controlled, wireless Podo Bluetooth camera that can stick anywhere will help solve the I-have-nobody-to-take-my-picture problem singles face from time to time. But of course, you can do what I’ve done many times and ask someone to kindly take your picture. People are generally nice. I’ve met other single travelers and we’ve taken turns snapping each other’s pictures. FYI, though, a lot of places have banned selfie sticks so have an alternative handy.

Reusable hand warmers are great for the cold weather when there are no other hands to keep yours warm. I have one and it’s easy to use. Snap the metal disk inside and the liquid turns into a soft solid that stays warm for a good length of time. Then it turns cold. Reheat in boiling water and the solid turns back into liquid, ready to be used again. Also great for camping and walking around in the cold.

Vinebox for wine lovers is a wine subscription box that sends you 3 or 6 wine in test-tube looking glasses instead of full bottles. You get a good glass worth of wine (10cl restaurant pours), which I think is perfect for singles (and anyone) who want to try out new wine but don’t want to invest in entire bottles at a time. This is not an affiliate link, but something I want to try when my budget allows it. It starts at $25/month for a year of subscription, but you first have to pay the full year so I’m holding off, but I love the concept.

My Microwave Chocolate Cake in a Mug recipe which you can split into two smaller portions, but why would you do that? Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp flavorless oil
2 tbsp milk
2 tbsp chocolate spread. Options: Hershey’s chocolate spread, Nutella for a hazelnut chocolate flavor, Reeses spread for a peanut butter & chocolate flavor,

2 tbsp self-raising flour (or 2 tbsp of flour & 1/2 tsp of baking powder)
2 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tbsp sugar
a pinch of salt
optional: 1 tsp of instant coffee or a pinch of cayenne (either of these will complement the chocolate, but they’re not necessary)

Materials:

1 large mug
measuring spoons
1 fork
1 microwave

In your mug, use the fork to combine together the wet ingredients: egg, vanilla extract, oil, milk, and chocolate spread. Add the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and optional ingredients if you’re using them. Mix until just combined. Don’t over mix. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Check the consistency. Microwave in 10 second increments until center is solid but still wiggly. Do not over-microwave or it will become tough. Enjoy by itself or top with whipped cream, powdered sugar, or a scoop of ice cream.
