Every month, I’m taking a look back at the things I learned, loved, and lived through. I’m also looking forward to the next month. Here’s my look back at February 2016. Happy leap year day, by the way!
LEARNED
I’m learning American Sign Language. I learned how to sign, “I am sick,” which is handy dandy because I am sick.
I learned about Singles Awareness Day and how singles are reclaiming SAD to turn in into a celebration of ourselves and our friendships. Love that.
I relearned how expensive textbooks are. I had forgotten and now my heart goes out to all college students. It’s so wrong how expensive those books are. Just. So. Wrong.
LOVED
I have loved looking at bullet journals on Pinterest, but I admit that’s all I’ve gotten to. Last year, I started a bullet journal. I think I made it to 5 pages. It’s too analog for me. Too analytical. Too black and white. Not enough creativity, until I looked at those Pins and got bullet journal envy. I haven’t restarted though. I know I should just plunge right back in instead of waiting until…until I’m not sick anymore, until I find time, until I run out of excuses. But…I don’t know. For now, I’m content at looking and pinning.
LIVED THROUGH
I’m still living through being sick. I’ve been sick for two weeks now, so I’m sitting on the couch waiting for the doctor’s office to call back with my appointment. When you get sick, do you book an appointment right away or wait a while? The only reason I wait and see if I get better on my own is because it takes such a long time to get a doctor’s appointment. By the time I see the doctor, I’m usually okay.
I went back to school. Along with forgetting how expensive textbooks are, I forgot about group work and tests. Do you prefer group work or working alone?
I am doing Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Reading Challenge and this month, I read Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko. It’s a children’s book, but a great read for any age. This book checks off the “book recommended by your local librarian or bookseller” category since I picked this up from the Book Blind Date bookshelf from my library.
LOOKING FORWARD
I am most definitely looking forward to Spring. I look forward to warmer and longer days. To sweater weather. To getting disinfected by the sun.
I’m currently reading More by Benny Perez and Sisi: Empress on Her Own by Allison Pataki (I’m on the book launch team). I look forward to reading Looking for Lovely by Annie F. Downs. It is available for pre-order and she has freebies for those who do. Check out lookingforlovelybook.com for details. I, sadly, did not make it into the launch team but I’m still excited because I love it when Annie has words to share.
I’m also looking forward to our Spring Family Night at church. It is this Saturday. Can I just ask for your prayers of healing please? It’s such a bummer to be sick when a big ministry event is coming up, but I trust my leaders. They’re amazing and can get things done. Hoorah for volunteers!

I’m yet to ready any of Annie F. Downs’ books but I think I’d like to begin with Let’s All Be Brave before I read her latest one 🙂 What do you think of Looking for Lovely so far?
I’m not in the Looking for Lovely launch team so I have to wait for the book 🙂 but I’m excited to read it. I loved “Let’s All Be Brave”! You should definitely read it. Annie writes well, like a friend who’s sitting next to you telling you her stories. If you follow her on social media, her voice is the same in videos and in her writing.
