Single Life Adventures

How many adventures you go on is up to you. We make time and a way for what’s important to us. Below are some ideas for your single life adventures. Of course, you can round up your friends to go with you, but if nobody’s available, take heart and go on your own! Exercise caution, but be open.

Get a membership to a theme park, zoo, or aquarium.
Go whenever you want. Take your time exploring the place one section at a time. Read a book next to the elephants. Jot down your thoughts in view of the ocean. Ride your favorite ride over and over and over again.

Catch a food truck.
They’re always on the move and may park themselves at different cities everyday. Find a food truck that could satisfy your cravings. Follow their schedule on social media. Get your grub on when they’re near you or when they go to a city you’ve been meaning to visit.

Have a daycation.
Drive off to a city relatively near you. Explore new sights. Play tourist with old-school point-and-shoot cameras. Book a hotel for the night. Jump in the pool or relax in the hot tub. Get a mani-pedi at the local spa and eat at a local diner.

Visit a local spot.
You don’t have to go far for an adventure. You may be living in a city filled with hidden gems. Visit a local: library, park or community garden, mom & pop shop, independent cafe, specialized dessert shop, churro man, etc. My sister pointed out a local churro man near church. Even cold, his churros were delicious! What’s hiding in your city?

Meander in a museum.
Ponder on a painting. Speculate on a sculpture. Contemplate and ruminate for as long as you want. Nobody’s pulling your arm to move on.

Go on a random road trip.
Pack a go bag. Fill up the tank. Flip the coin. Heads go north. Tails go south. Heads turn left. Tails turn right. It’s a random road trip and you make up the adventure as you go along. Just pull over when you flip the coin so you don’t get into an accident!

Take a random flight to wherever.
Someday, I will tell you my personal experience #bucketlist, but here’s the idea. Go the airport and book a flight that leaves that day, wherever it may go. Explore. Go back home or back to the airport and take another random flight wherever until you end back home. It may help if you know an airline customer service agent.

You can also do this through Adioso. It’s a flight search engine. Type in your city or airport of origin, where you want to go (you can pick Anywhere, Domestic, International, etc), a departure date (can be “anytime”), an optional return date, and the number of travelers. Then book online to wherever Adioso sends you!

Another option similar to this is to take a random train ride to wherever. You can actually take a train ride across the continental United States via Amtrak. Again, #bucketlist.

Attend a festival or a conference.
Festivals and conferences abound year-round. What interests you? Music? Food? Art and crafts? There’s a festival for that. Business? Leadership? Writing? Spiritual life? There’s a conference for that. Sometimes, our circles don’t share the same interests so step out of your comfort zone. It may be intimidating at first, but it’s worth it to enjoy what you like and network with like-minded people.

Become a regular.
This one’s a daily adventure! Pick a spot, any spot, and become a regular customer. Go regularly at regular times and order the same thing every single time. Get to know the servers, manager, and owner. Be part of the community!

Volunteer.
Adventures can look like all sorts of things, and volunteering is one of the best kinds of adventure. You don’t just feel good and better yourself. You impact the lives of other people and better your community. There are many ways to volunteer for many types of causes. Find something that you’re passionate about, something that tugs on your heartstrings. Make a difference!

There are many adventures to go on. Big and small. Local and global. Daily or once-in-a-lifetime. Adventures abound around us. Be open and go for it!
