Summer Favorites #blogtemberchallenge

Now that summer’s at an end, share a list of favorites from the season!

I’m sad that summer’s over. At first, it didn’t seem like an eventful summer, but looking back, it was actually nice! Here are a lit of my favorites from Summer 2016.

favorite book I read: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (finished in June)

favorite food I ate: cannollis at this hole-in-the-wall pizza joint

favorite summer fruit (it deserves special attention): pluots (part plum, and part apricot)

favorite movie I watched: “X-Men: Apocalypse”
Okay, technically it was released May 27, and most of us count summer as the months of June, July, and August. But this is the only movie I’ve ever watched more than once in the theaters. I watched it twice. I thought it was that good, mostly because of the acting of James McAvoy. But if we’re going to get technical with the dates, then “The Insanity of God” (a one-night event on August 30) would be that movie. There’s an encore presentation on September 13, so go check out Fandango for ticket information.

favorite summer adventure: I have one for each month!
In June, I went to a rose garden with my sisters and cousin (she was visiting from the Philippines). On July 4, my sisters and I went to the pool. In August, my brother and I visited the aquarium…and ended up buying annual passes. I think the aquarium felt like a good refuge for both of us. It was close enough to drive to, but far enough to feel the stress melt away. It’s also right at the shores and that ocean breeze has a way of flowing through your bones and soul. Plus, student discount rate!

favorite summer discovery: this poem by Erin Hanson
She is a 21 year old poet from Australia. I’m sending you over to her site (instead of posting the poem here) in hopes that you would be inspired to read more of her poems. They’re really good…really good. And also because I want you to read the words from the word weaver herself.

favorite summer surprise: how this post about God asking me to let go blew into my life again as if God was saying, “I told you so.” It was a surprise. Not the I-found-a-bar-of-chocolate-in-my-purse kind of surprise, but in the way that only God can surprise us. When He shows us how the little things in our lives interconnect, and how when He makes sense of the seemingly senseless things He asks of us. When He reveals to us a little more of the bigger picture that only He can fathom. Like getting a little bit of heaven’s understanding. That kind of surprise.

Keeping this post short and sweet 🙂 Go enjoy your weekend!
